Sebo Felix - no power to cleaning head?
« on: January 04, 2021, 01:42:03 pm »
I own a Sebo Felix (1300w) that has performed flawlessly since being purchased new 15 years ago.
Yesterday, the cleaning head stopped working: the lights flashed and it worked intermittently for a few times and then died.

The vacuum motor is working fine and there is good suction, but the cleaning head is 'dead'. The power connector to the cleaning head has about 12v ac on it when the vacuum motor is running. As the cleaning head appears to have a 230v ac motor, I would assume that there should be 230v ac on this connector. In a post elsewhere on this site (titled 'Felix - Vogue') I saw a photo of a PCB that appears to be just above this connector where the hose plugs into the main unit below the bag. It was suggested that this PCB controls power to the cleaning head. This area has a cover over it, but how does one remove that cover (I have removed the self-tapping screw by the connector, but the cover is still fixed). I am reluctant to start removing screws randomly.

Questions:
1. Am I on the right lines: is the likely problem a lack of 230v power to cleaning head?
2. Is this small PCB (just above the connector on the main unit) a likely suspect?
3. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
4. Are there any service manuals and circuit diagrams available anywhere.

I have a background as an electronics/electrical engineer, so I am capable of fixing something if I know how it works and can identify the problem.

Thanks for your help.

There is a loom that feeds the head that sometimes breaks. Check what input and output you have either side of the PCB and check continuity of the small loom that feeds the socket that feeds the head.

Thank you - it seems like I'm thinking along the right lines...
BUT, how do I get access to that small circuit board, as I mentioned in my original post.
There is a white/ivory cover over the lower part of the upright body. I removed the S/T screw at the bottom (by the vacuum inlet from the cleaning head). Which other screws need removing? There are 4 underneath the exhaust filter (facing down) so, logically they may hold the top of the cover that I'm referring to. However, I've held back thus far as I don't want to be left holding a bunch of parts if they secure something else.
Thanks.

I have found the answer......

The cover, called the 'Lower Housing' (Part no 7167 SE) is secured by the screw that I mentioned AND a plastic tongue/tab at the top of the housing ( above and to the right of the Sebo logo). There is a moulded arrow in the blue plastic just above the joint with the housing. Insert a flat-bladed screwdriver to depress the tongue/tab and pull the lower housing off.

To cut to the conclusion:
The fault that I have is caused by the short wiring loom (Part 7064 'Internal Wiring ET') from the small PCB (Part 7107 ER) that goes down to the connector with the cleaning head. One of the two cables in this wiring loom is 'open circuit' when tested with a multi-meter. Presumably it has broken due to vibration and movement over the 15 years of the cleaner's life. Output from the edge connector on the small PCB for this wiring loom is 230v ac and the hose microswitch is operating as it should (hose out = no power to cleaning head).

Hopefully this description is helpful to someone else.

Yes, the loom is the one I mentioned. Often you can see the break if you pull it a bit. We change quite a few of them.

Why they break is a mystery as they don't really move much.
