Hello everyone - DC25 reassembly - misplaced some screws
« on: March 07, 2021, 03:10:12 pm »
Good morning from the US!
I found your site while searching for a factory repair manual for a DC25.

I had to take it apart to deep clean some components and - sadly - misplaced some of the screws. Was hoping to find a good resource to understand exactly what screws I am missing so that I may try to find exact replacements.

If anyone has any advice or resource, it would be immensely appreciated.

Thanks, and be well!

Have a look at the strip down topic here, that should give you some pointers.

Hi! I've got a DC25 apart right now being refurbed, here's what a complete screw set looks like

Might be easier to work out what screws to what parts you are missing and go from there, as alot are the same size/shared with other dysons. Bar the really short screws (which you could cut a long one down to) some screws from any other dyson would probably work.

Thank you for pointing me out to that link.

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I greatly appreciated your older post from a few years ago, and thanks to it I was able to put together a DC25 that I took apart over a year ago (I got it for free, didn't strip it down as far as you did, but enough to have trouble reassembling it - funny thing is, I took pics too, but can't find them).

Today I tested my DC25 and it seems to work decently well, despite the following issues:

1) I lost one of the plastic washers

2) I can't figure out where this spring goes:

3) Am I missing a plastic release button here?

beko1987, any idea where that spring might go?

Like I said, the vacuum seems to be working, but I can hear a very slight rattle, I am hoping that installing the spring where it belongs will address it. I will have to see if I can find the plastic washer somewhere for a decent price, I looked up on my local feeBay/Amazon and they want $10 for one! :censored:

Thank you again for your help!

You've done well sir, only 3 bits left!

That spring goes in the brushroll housing. You've I'm afraid for to strip it down, remove the belt and unlatch the motor from the housing (where it clips onto the sliders to meet the bottom cog). The spring goes under there and gives the belt tension. Then reassemble.

Yep you need (I call them) a cog washer under the red pedal screw. An normal small enough washer would work though.

Hoseend needs a small spring and indeed the locking latch (although it'll work fine you'll have the hose falling off whenever you want to use it.

Good luck!

Thanks sir, feels like quite the accomplishment, when you factor how complicated these beasts can be.

Ha! Done, thanks for the tip (see below image)!

I wound up finding a feeBay listing selling two screws and two plastic cog washers. Still $10, but at least I am getting two of each, which is a way better deal than the $10 for a single washer I had seen previously.

Thank you, I'll see if I can find a replacement latch, not urgent though.

I tested the vacuum and it still has a very slight vibration/noise coming from the brushroll housing. I was hoping that it was caused by the missing spring, but it's still there. I wonder if it's caused by worn/loose belt (or brush)... or even one of the little wheels... but it works for now, so that's good.

Thanks again!

You probably need a new brushroll end cap- they always go rattly, I fit a new cap to every one that I sell and they’re always much quieter afterwards, even if the old one looks fine

Thank you. Just to be sure, you mean this one, correct?
