Searching for a replacement motor for my DC39 (918954-03).
I constantly read within the 918954-03 product specifications that this motor is compatible with the DC28, DC33, DC37, DC39C, and DC41 vacs! (Search against that Dyson part number and see for yourself). The possibility of selecting from such a variety compatible motors initially seemed quite appealing. However, with the exception of the DC37 (which specs the same part number motor), the motors for these DCxx models differ significantly:

  • Visibly different.
The plenum shroud depth; presence--and type--of belt shaft; motor damper fitment, and wiring orientation--all differ between these five motors, and make one incompatible with the others.

  • Different OEM part numbers.
    DC28 (911604-03); DC33 (905455-02); DC37/39 (918954-03); DC41 (921440-01)

Does anyone know exactly which Dyson vacs have motors that are genuinely cross-compatible with the DC39?

The one in your graphic labelled DC41 is wrong.

You're in the US so part numbers differ as we are on 220-240v and you're on 110-120v. However, I doubt the cross compatibility will change. You can see a list of UK machines the UK DC39 motor fits >here<.

Some of the confusion arises with country specific models. In the US, the DC28 is an upright model. In the U.K, the DC28 was only sold as a cylinder vacuum.
Same with the DC33. In the UK and US it’s an upright machine. Elsewhere it is a cylinder. Different machines, completely different motors. So you have to watch that. Cross country model referencing will bring up models you might not initially expect.
I don’t think you will find other motors that fit the DC39. I did get a DC05/08/19/20 motor to fit once but I wouldn’t recommend it. Just get the original DC39 type to be sure.

Thanks for the clarification.

I cannot source new/used/reman OEM/aftermarket (e.g.: Quаltex, et al) replacement motor. Poor languishing DC39...
