Replacement motor for C2 Compact SFAC0 - mrg 402-42/2 408-42/2
« on: December 22, 2022, 06:22:57 pm »
Hi All,

Houston we have a problem ! My son decided it was a good idea to vacuum up spilt liquid on our carpet - the result was a poorly sounding C2 with almost no suction and a burning smell.

I stripped down the unit only to find a wet motor. I tried removing the impeller retaining nut to no avail. Had a windy gun in it - won’t budge. Eventually the nut and motor shaft started to rotate and the impeller stayed still but the not is locked to the shaft.

I’m now desperate for a working hoover as wife is going nuts - no hoover over Xmas.

So any advise - recommendations for a motor welcome ! It’s the 1400w version. I see many c3 1600 w motors on eBay but not sure that they are interchangeable??

Many thanks
Rake

If it looks like this and is a 1200w, there's an aftermarket one we can get.

There are a few other non-genuine variants on eBay, but it's essential you buy by motor code with Miele, many are not interchangeable.

If you can't find an aftermarket one, buying a new genuine one is prohibitively expensive, and you'd usually look at replacing the machine.

Many people replace Miele cylinder machines with Sebo cylinder machines now.

The fan nut has a reverse thread-you need to turn it clockwise to undo it.

Hi, can you give me the details of the aftermarket replacement motor.

Mine is also MRG 408-42/2

Much appreciated.

I gather they have been withdrawn, at least by the source we used to use. They were blowing the PCB up I gather. As far as I am aware, nobody has ever got aftermarket Miele motors right. A good used one would be a better option IMO.

That doesn't sound good, there are quiet a few clones on eBay.

That's why I suggested a good used one, you should be able to see the labels on it on the photos. Copies won't have the same labels.

Also, I'll send Beko 1987 here a PM to see if he has one floating around in his stock.

Thanks for that, when you mentioned that the clone motors "were blowing the PCB up", so you are saying, they will work but only for a time, until they fry the board  :D

I'm afraid I've got nothing, and wrote off a c2 cat and dog the other week for just such an issue 😭 Used wet, it didn't kill the vac but knackered the bearings. Sadly all the metal bits in the motor corroded and expanded and it broke more stripping it down.
Ive had pattern motors from q-know-who too and one arrived with the inner pcb solder fully melted off to the point it would have shorted the entire thing if I'd fitted it. 2nd one was better, but I fitted it and it shorted out with a visible spark the power switch board which was very odd.
I've heard tales of connecting the original motor toc board to another motors wires and that works, but I've never tried it, and steer clear of mieles now for that reason.

A battered but running unit only job on ebay would be your best bet I'm afraid 😔 Good luck!

So you are recommending staying away from these after-market motors, such as this?

I've just had a look and one of our better suppliers lists them aftermarket. They didn't last time I looked. It is listed as 1600w for C3 Powerline, Extreme and S8. It doesn't mention C2 so you would have to research if they are the same, I *think* they are, but wattage will matter as a PCB runs them.

I could get one within a day or two at £53.50 delivered. But it would be non-returnable. Email us if you want a checkout link.

It may be that what is out there is better now. The original ones I was thinking of were made by Quаltex and were withdrawn as far as I am aware. But there may still be lots out there.

It's actually a C3 which I'm trying to fix, it is the title of this thread mentions C2.

The motor model is the same as the OP, 408-42/2

I'll be in contact about the your offer if needed, many thanks.
