Sebo X4 making loud deep 'rattling' noise

We have an old X4 which works fine but suddenly makes a deep vibrating/rattling noise, no lights on.  Brush and roller rotates ok but there is a slight electrical smell.  I'm wondering if the motor bearings have gone and can I replace just them or is there likely to be more electrical damage.  Not used since this started.  Anyone had this experience?

Without hearing it, it is hard to say. It certainly sounds motor-related. Without opening it and bench-testing it, you'd not know.
