Sebo X models design flaw
« on: March 04, 2024, 02:17:29 pm »
Despite the (clickbait?) subject of this thread, I’ve been an X series user for a number of years. X1, X4 and latterly X7. I love the sturdiness of the machines, as well as how easy they are to repair if things go wrong.

However…. I do feel they have a design flaw. When parked in the upright position (to use tools, the hose, or whatever) the brush bar keeps spinning. This has caused us two problems. 1) if the cord happens to be underneath the machine (by accident) the brush bar will chew through it. I’ve lost count of the number of replacement cords I’ve had to fit! And 2) there are marks all over our laminate flooring where our cleaner, bless her, has left the machine in the upright position to use the tools or hose, and the constant friction from the brush bar has marked the floor.

Which brings me on to a question - are there any machines in the Sebo range (perhaps commercial ones, but not really heavy/awkward models) that DO stop the brush bar when the machine is in the upright position? If not, I know that many other manufacturers don’t have this problem but are there any of Sebo (or nearly Sebo) quality that don’t have this problem?

Thank you,

Paul.

You're right this is a feature of the X series, and when dealing with people face to face, we always mention to lean them back on the stairs, for example, if using the hose on the stairs to avoid the brushroll spinning in one place and potentially marking carpet.

By rights, the self-levelling feature mostly mitigates it as the machine rises up when stood upright, but as machines get older, brushrolls wear and they don't always rise up as far as they once did (I feel there's a potential joke in there somewhere  :chuckle: )

The Sebo upright machines that switch off when stood upright are the BS360 and the Dart in commercials and the Felix in domestics.

However, as with the nature of Sebos, none are especially light. With vacuums, looking at good performance and weight, you can choose either; not both.
