New ones can be stiff, they do soften up with use.

Put it through the washing machine on a hot wash, should relax it a bit. I used a DC75 the other week with a stupidly stiff hose, it may as well have not stretched at all and just been rigid...

When i got my dc25 it had a Quаltex hose and i kept it for a few months. It was very very stiff. Got a genuine one and it is perfect, very flexible and doesnt pull back in my experience.

If its a non genuine hose it will have a square cord hook (pic below)

If it has a genuine hose it will have a rounded cord hook again pic below.

You can also tell by that as the clip on the gen is a lighter grey. Aswell as the gen having a rectangle bump on the back.

Mine has the round hook on bottom, are you sure I can wash the hose and won't damage? I did clean it with warm water but never in washing machine yet

We bought a brand new Dyson DC25 Animal in 2011, we had it 2 years and used it all the time, even after 2 years the hose was still stiff with lots of use! :|

But we got a brand new Dyson DC41 Mk2 Animal about a month ago, the hose is sort of loosening up already :) I'm not really too sure why, perhaps they either used a similarly different material or done something with the thickness of the material used for the hoses..

The DC25 has 220AW of suction at the hose and the DC41 mk2 animal has 198 AW so maybe that's sort of why?

Not really a fan of vacuums with less than 200 Aw often
